Measurement device for motor, spindle runout

MicroSense has introduced the MicroSense 6810, along with the 6000 series probes, as a noncontact displacement measurement system that measures radial runout of HDD with sub-nanometre resolution. The company describes the latest product as a high-resolution capacitive position sensor for such high dynamic measurements as motor and spindle runout.

The 6810 measures high dynamic targets that rotate, vibrate at high speeds, or change position. It is used for spindle error analysis of machine tool spindles, air bearing spindles and HDD spindle motors. It is also used with the MicroSense SpinCheck systems. SpinCheck customers can improve measurement resolution by 2x to 5x by upgrading to the 6810 and 6000 combo series probes, stated the company. Upgrading is easy according to MicroSense since no design changes are needed for the drop-in replacement; there is 100 per cent compatibility.

There are two models available, the 6810 single-channel, standalone sensor with external low-noise power supply and the 6800 single-channel, 3U high Eurocard for rack mounting.

The SpinCheck system combines a desktop PC; data acquisition and timing boards; comprehensive, measurement and analysis software; cables; and accessories. The system measures and stores all data for analysis, display, printout, or storage.
