EtherCat, FMI added to automotive test system

Development service provider Berner & Mattner has updated the Messina ECU test system with the introduction of its version 3.9, adding features such as EtherCAT connectivity and Functional Mockup Interface (FMI).

EtherCAT, already a well-established standard in automation technology, gives testers greater flexibility when selecting hardware. Being highly scalable, easy to use and cost-effective technology is increasingly recognised in the automotive test industry and provides decentralised real-time signal detection.

The FMI enables users to verify models in different modelling languages. These models can be integrated into Messina's Windows-based test environment. Thus, functions and systems can be automatically tested against complex sets of requirements even at early stages in the development. Nevertheless, Messina still supports tests from specification phase through the HiL (Hardware-in the-Loop) test stand. The tests supported also include Model testing (MiL), Software testing (SiL). These strategies can also be implemented across processes between OEMs and suppliers.
