Disturbance analysis capability improves EMI receiver

Agilent Technologies improved its N9038A MXE EMI receiver by adding disturbance analyser capabilities, which allow user to conduct discontinuous-disturbance, or click, measurements on this instrument in accordance with CISPR standards.

A wide range of commercial electronic devices, such as washing machines, refrigerators and thermostats, generate discontinuous conducted emissions. The MXE facilitates click measurements by providing auto-coupled settings that link the chosen measurement frequencies to the proper instrument configuration and relevant CISPR test limits. Test duration can be set for up to two hours.

The clear structure of the displayed results helps users to characterise the conducted-emissions performance of the device under test and evaluate it against regulatory requirements. Intermediate results are displayed as data is collected, enabling the user to track the measurement process. Upon completion, final analysis is automatically generated, showing pass/fail results, a list of all crucial parameters (e.g., click count, click rate, etc.) and the status of any applied exemptions. Results can be documented with standard or customised reports.

The MXE is a standards-compliant EMI receiver and diagnostic signal analyser built on an upgradeable platform. It meets commercial (CISPR 16-1-1:2010) and military requirements (MIL-STD-461). To help users diagnose noncompliant signals, the MXE includes a variety of built-in tools, such as diagnostic resolution bandwidths, a range of detectors, multi-trace displays, marker functions, trace zoom, zone span, spectrograms and Agilent-exclusive Strip Chart. To enhance instrument longevity, upgradeable options include CPU, memory, disc drives and I/O ports.
