Vishay delivers optocoupler family with 10mm creepage

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. expands its VOW Widebody family of high-isolation optocouplers with a new series of high-speed devices capable of 1MBd and 10MBd data rates.

Designed to increase reliability in high-voltage alternative energy and industrial applications, the VOW135, VOW136, VOW137, and VOW2611 provide a VIOTM of 8,000V, VIORM of 1,414V, and offer an external creepage distance of greater than 10mm.

The Vishay Semiconductors VOW Widebody optocouplers consist of a GaAIAs infrared emitting diode, optically coupled with an integrated photo detector. In addition to the increased robustness provided by their high safety isolation, the devices feature an internal Faraday shield to provide the very high input-to-output noise isolation required by high-power switching applications.

The VOW135, VOW136, VOW137, and VOW2611 are designed to isolate low- to high-voltage circuits in alternative energy systems such as solar inverters and in industrial applications such as motion and motor control and welding equipment. Eliminating the need for expensive conformal-coated solutions, the VOW Widebody devices allow designers to meet domestic and international safety agency requirements at a low cost and with a small form factor.

The VOW135 and VOW136 offer common mode transient immunity of 1,000V/μs and high- and low-level propagation delay of less than 2µs at a data rate of 1MBd. VOW137 and VOW2611 devices provide a data rate of 10MBd and boost common mode transient immunity up to 40,000V/μs while keeping high- and low-level propagation delay at less than 100ns and high pulse width distortion less than 40ns.

The VOW Widebody optocouplers are offered with a high creepage distance of more than 10mm in DIP-8 400 mil Widebody through-hole and surface-mount lead-bend packages. The devices are compliant to RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, conform to Vishay "Green" standards, and are certified to UL, cUL, VDE, and CQC 5000 m reinforced insulation requirements.

Samples and production quantities of the VOW135, VOW136, VOW137, and VOW2611 are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks.
