Budget Therman Imaging

While it may not provide outstanding thermal images like FLIR (Forward-Looking Infrared), Charles Werbick's Budget Thermal Imager can map hot and cold spots with ease and for a lot less money. Of course, he uses an RPi 2 in his project to help process those images in real time. Along with the RPi 2, Charles uses an RPi camera along with a MLX90620 16 X 4 thermopile array that packs a whopping 64 temperature sensors to map out those hot/cold spots. Those images are transferred in real time to an HDMI connected monitor, which shows a spectrum of colours based on the temperatures collected. The total cost for the setup ranges anywhere from $130 up (the thermopile sensor runs $80) depending on the monitor that's used.
