GENBAND has introduced the S3 1000 Session Border Controller (SBC) that comes in a 1 Rack Unit (RU) form factor. According to the company, the devices provide cost effective solutions for smaller deployments supporting highly distributed or low density specifications. The software-based S3 SBC portfolio target small service provider deployments and enterprise customers all the way up to the world's largest fixed and mobile service provider networks, added the company.

The 1RU S3 1000 is engineered for smaller carriers, large carriers with remote points of presence and the growing enterprise SBC market. The 2RU S3 2000 SBC uses the latest in Intel computing and Cavium network processing chipsets and provides exceptional scalability with the price/performance advantages of standard COTS components. Rounding out the portfolio is the S3 GENiUS ATCA platform, offering unprecedented scalability and the unique ability to deliver multiple applications from the same chassis, detailed GENBAND.

The GENBAND S3 is an advanced, software-based SBC with the intelligence to deliver adaptive security, insightful policy enforcement, any-to-any interworking and advanced session routing for IP Interconnect, IPX, Hosted Unified Communications, SIP Business Trunking, access deployments, Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Rich Communications Suite (RCS) services across Next Generation and IMS networks. The intelligent security framework of the S3 incorporates a pluggable, dynamic policy model that establishes a policy binding for each application and device. Unique real time session monitoring and analysis enable the S3 to issue corrective actions dynamically. In addition, the S3 GENiUS platform enables additional GENBAND IP solutions, such as call control or traffic and policy management, to use the same chassis as the S3, minimizing footprint and power requirements.

The S3 is configurable as a standalone SBC or can be integrated into the ATCA-based GENiUS platform as part of a multiapplication solution. It is based on Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) hardware to facilitate the rapid adoption of new technology and ensure a superior price/performance ratio vs. proprietary systems, noted the company. In addition, the device is field upgradeable to support future hardware enhancements, and is channel ready, enabling a simple-to-order approach.
