LED driver with built-in MOSFET targets low-power apps

Fairchild Semiconductor has announced its LED lighting drivers that according to the company meet limited PCB footprints, circuit protection and system reliability demands, and simplify supply chain logistics. The FLS0116, FLS3217 and FLS3247 with integrated MOSFET and power factor correction (PFC) are optimally designed for low-power LED applications, stated the company.

With the addition of the integrated power MOSFET, these devices help to minimize board space and overall component count while decreasing design time. Equipped with cycle-by-cycle current limiting and integrated protection features such as over temperature protection (OTP) and undervoltage lockout (UVLO), these devices help to significantly improve LED lamp system reliability, noted Fairchild.

The FLS0116 uses an "adopted digital" technique that automatically detects AC and DC input voltage conditions, enabling and disabling PFC functions while also offering programmable oscillation frequency and analog dimming and soft-start functions. The FLS3217 and FLS3247 with primary-side regulation (PSR) can support isolated flyback converter and non-isolated DC/DC converter applications. Additionally, the devices regulate accurate output current by using a precise constant-current control (CC) function and increase efficiency for an easier design with linear frequency control.

The FLS0116 has a 1A/550V built-in MOSFET, built-in HV supplying circuit for self biasing and operating current of 0.85mA (typical). It features a current-sense pin open protection, digital PFC function (>0.9), analog dimming function, and programmable LED current and frequency. Likewise, it boasts automatic, convertible AC/DC and DC-DC Inputs. No transformer or electrolytic capacitor is required for reduced component counts.

The FLS3217/FLS3247 features built-in MOSFETs (FLS3217:1A/700V or FLS3247:4A/700V), open/short LED protection, and operating current of 5mA (typical). It flaunts high PF at >0.9, low THD (Class C) and tight CC tolerance of <±5% in system. No input electrolytic capacitor required for reduced component counts

Available in 1,000 quantity pieces, the price for FLS0116MX is at $1.29, FLS3217M is at $0.92,

FLS3217N is at $1.27, and FLS3247N is at $1.36. Samples are available upon request with 8 to 12 weeks ARO.
