SoC integrates ARM Cortex and TI's DSP cores

Designers of high-performance computers now have the option to use a 10Gbit/s Ethernet switch-on-chip with the release of Texas Instruments' 66AK2H14 system-on-a-chip. This SoC delivers 307 GMACS/153 GFLOPS DSP performance and 19600 DMIPS of ARM performance, which can be useful for applications ranging from radar processing to medical imaging. TI also introduced an evaluation module for its KeyStone-based 66AK2Hx SoCs (EVMK2H) to facilitate the benchmarking and evaluation of computer systems. The evaluation module can be availed through TI distribution partners or for $995, while the 66AK2H14 SoC can be purchased for at least $330 for 1 KU.

Suitable for video surveillance, radar processing, medical imaging, machine vision and geological exploration, the 66AK2H14 integrates multiple ARM Cortex-A15 MPCore processors and TI's fixed- and floating-point TMS320C66x digital signal processor generation cores. The 66AK2H14 offers developers exceptional capacity and performance (up to 9.6GHz of cumulative DSP processing) at industry-leading size, weight, and power. High-speed interfaces included in the new SoC are PCIe, RapidIO, Hyperlink, 1Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s Ethernet, achieving total I/O throughput of up to 154Gbit/s. These interfaces are all distinct and not multiplexed, allowing designers tremendous flexibility with uncompromising performance in their designs.

TI also released EVMK2H evaluation module, which features a single 66AK2H14 SoC, a status LCD, two 1Gbit/s Ethernet RJ-45 interfaces and on-board emulation. Developers can purchase an optional EVM breakout card from Mitral if they want to have two 10Gbit/s Ethernet optical interfaces for 20Gbit/s backplane connectivity and optional wire rate switching in high density systems. The EVMK2H is bundled with TI's Multicore Software Development Kit, which offers highly-optimised bundles of foundational, platform-specific drivers, optimised libraries and demos.
