Vishay Intertechnology has rolled out samples and production quantities of the Siliconix SiP12108, a 5A buck regulator with switching frequencies of up to 4MHz. Launched under the microBUCK family of integrated synchronous buck regulators, the SiP12108 includes high- and low-side power MOSFETs and is encased in a compact 3mm x 3mm QFN-16 package. The product is useful in devices ranging from low-power processors to DVRs and LAN/WAN equipment.

The high switching frequencies of the SiP12108 enable a compact design with minimal components, making the device ideal for point of load regulation and 3.3V and 5V rails in a wide range of space-constrained computing, consumer electronics, telecom, and industrial applications. The device released provides an input voltage range of 2.8V to 5.5V and adjustable output voltage down to 0.6V with 1 per cent accuracy while a selectable power-saving mode enables efficiency to 95 per cent across the full range of load current. The SiP12108's current-mode constant on-time architecture delivers ultra-fast transient response with minimum output capacitance and tight ripple regulation at very light loads.

The SiP12108 offers a full protection feature set, including output under-voltage and over-voltage protection, thermal shutdown, input under-voltage lockout, internal soft start, and a power good indicator. An "A" version of the device, the SiP12108A, is available with the output under-voltage protection feature disabled. To simplify designs, the RoHS-compliant, halogen-free regulator is stable with any capacitor type and doesn't require an ESR network for loop stability.

Vishay's SiP12108 is footprint-compatible with its 3A SiP12107. The company's free PowerCAD online simulation tool provides designers with a fast and convenient way to test and optimise circuits utilising the SiP12107, SiP12108, SiP12108A, or any other product in the microBUCK DC/DC family. The tool is available at

Large orders of the SiP12108 are available with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks.
