DelfMEMS develops SP12T RF MEMS contact switch

DelfMEMS SA, a supplier of radio frequency switches made using MEMS techniques, has created a twelve-throw RF ohmic contact switch. According to the company, RF MEMS switches can be used in the RF section of handsets where their isolation and low insertion loss should be superior to transistor-switched channels.

The early samples of the SP12T switch have performance levels that are comparable to transistor switching but for production devices the performance levels will be significantly higher, enabling LTE-A and higher data rates for both upload and download, the company indicated.

"RF MEMS switches have been known for many years as outstanding potential solutions for mobile handset RF performance, but have so far failed to see any reasonable level of success either due to cost or reliability concerns. We have solved these issues with our FreeFlex MEMS technology," said Cybele Rolland, CEO of DelfMEMS.

"This is a key milestone for the company and we have already signed several contracts, with more in the pipeline, and anticipate shipping in 2H16," Rolland also said.
