Osterhout rolls high-end smart glasses

R-7 smart glasses

In an effort to deliver the computing power augmented reality applications require, Osterhout rolled out its R-7 smart glasses (above) packing a 2.7GHz processor and 64GB storage for $2,750.

I found virtual images hard to locate on the glasses, which ran hot after an afternoon showing demos on an extended battery pack. However, one user I talked to said the displays were as good and offered better head tracking than the Epson Moverio he currently uses.

Vital Medicals showed the existing R-6 glasses demonstrating a medical training application (below). Aero Glass showed the R-6 used in a mock-up of a commercial flight simulator (bottom).
