Noise generator for testing car communication systems

Spirent Communications has introduced the AING-5000, a noise generator geared for automotive digital communications systems. It lets you inject controlled noise from 10kHz to 600MHz into BroadR-Reach automotive Ethernet for functional testing, pre-compliance testing and troubleshooting. You can define noise signals in either the time domain or frequency domain by creating custom pulse shapes.

The AING-5000 also comes with predefined interference signals such as alternator noise and AM/FM carriers. Four models support one, two, four, or eight signal injectors.

Vehicles are extremely noisy environments. All those spark plugs, actuators, alternators and motors generate enough noise to disrupt communications systems, even the wired kind and even with shielding. Thus, you often need to inject noise into communications buses such as Ethernet, which is taking hold in vehicle engine control units (ECUs) at the component and at the system level.

AING-5000

The AING-5000 comes with pre-installed user interface software that lets you control the hardware directly. You can also control the AING-5000 is through scripts using the instrument's API command set from any programming environment that supports TCP/IP sockets. Spirent does not provide LabVIEW drivers. All connections to a remote computer are through Ethernet.

Besides using Spirent's software to create your own or predefined noise signals, you can capture real-world EMI, RFI, switched transients, or other signals on an oscilloscope using a high-impedance probe, then replay them on the AING-5000. You can also export waveforms as data files and store them offline. Maximum sample rate is 1.2Gsamples/s.
